Making the business of the outdoors profitable in order to preserve the world’s wilderness

Mountain landscape

The best way to protect the outdoors is to make it more valuable as the outdoors than as something else. That’s why we help owners, operators, and creators across the industry make better decisions.

We chose the name Walden as a deliberate reflection of our values and mission, deeply rooted in the philosophy of Henry David Thoreau’s time at Walden Pond. Thoreau’s commitment to simplicity, intentional living, and respect for nature mirrors the core of who we are.

At Walden, we believe that profound, lasting change often stems from simple yet thoughtful decisions, whether in business or environmental stewardship.

We believe the business of the outdoors is essential to protecting the outdoors from being overtaken by other industries and that expanding the outdoor industry’s reach will collectively elevate the outdoors to new heights.

We believe access—to innovation, data, partnerships, knowledge, and capital—are crucial for the success of outdoor entities.

We believe simple products and services, like a trickle of water over time, can significantly transform the outdoor landscape.

We believe to succeed in the business of nature, one must analyze and understand the nature of the business itself.

Outdoor industry expertise meets cutting-edge tech

From on the ground operations to leading strategic M&A, our founders’ twenty years of industry experience is the foundation for our research and product teams.
